Let’s go back to 2009. Here’s a video from February of that year. I had been playing for 5 months at this point. Old Joe Clark was (and still is) one of my favorite tunes. I was very proud of this video at the time. To see what a difference a few months makes, compare this video to this one from September 2008.
When learning a new instrument, I think that it is so important to have a couple of easy tunes that you like and can play well. When people hear that you are learning to play the fiddle, they will ask you to play something for them. Don’t be shy! Play one of your easy tunes. Right from the beginning, you are a musician. You don’t have to wait until you have mastered the instrument. Play what you can and do it with joy and confidence, even if you know your playing could be so much better. Be proud of how far you have come since you first began playing. Music is fun!
