Someone asked me if I have a ritual for the new moon. The Pink Moon is a special one for me. I suppose it started with the song (by Nick Drake), long before I cared or knew anything about moon names. It usually comes during my birthday month at the beginning of spring and coincides with the first precious warm days. (We had one last week.) It’s when early flowers begin their slow march. First come the crocuses, then the daffodils, then the tulips. They parade along under the big Pink Moon, telling us to leave the hard times behind. A sign of new beginnings and good things to come.

This will be my ritual for the new moon tonight: Sage, Medicine Cards, tea and whiskey. I’ll probably get my fiddle out and play a few tunes, too.

How will you honor the new moon?
